Artist Statement

My en plein air, alla prima (outside, all at once) paintings are made in watercolor possess a very strong presence of place. The sense of location was noted by Richard P. Ressel, 2013 Pennsylvania Watercolor Society Member Exhibition judge, when he awarded my painting “Old New Orleans House” an honorable mention:

“The fast quick sketch approach of this painting captures the feeling and
essence of this building better than a photograph because it also conveys
the ‘fun’ New Orleans. There is an impromptu, jazz quality to this painting.”
