I create fantastical narratives of blurred boundaries and in-between points where nature and humans, body and mind, self and others, and fantasy and reality meet.
Mayuko Fujino is a self-taught papercut and stencil artist from Tokyo currently based in Hudson Valley, NY. Inspired by Japanese traditional stencil textile designs, she has been practicing her art since 1999.
Her work has been exhibited internationally at locations such as Old Jaffa Museum (Tel Aviv, Israel), Fuller Craft Museum (Brockton, MA), Pelham Art Center (Pelham, NY, USA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark (Copenhagen, Denmark), and featured in a book of the world’s top papercraft illustrators by noted paper artist Owen Gildersleeve, Paper Cut: An Exploration Into the Contemporary World of Papercraft Art and Illustration. She has worked on art commissioned by clients including NYC Department of Transportation, NYC Parks, Nokia, Panasonic, Condé Nast, and the Atlantic Magazine.
