Janette Kahil
Artist Statement
Resume
I paint primarily in oil, but love experimenting in acrylic, watercolor, and pastel. Growing up in the Catskills, I learned to love simple landscapes and history at an early age. I strive to capture those light filled moments that inspire me on canvas and paper. That inspiration is everywhere I am, whether on the coast of Ireland, in the Canadian Rockies, or in the valley where I live. In recent years, I've studied portrait painting, and my goal is to have those interesting faces tell a story. I work from photo references in the studio as well as being a "fair weather" plein air painter.
Janette Kahil took her first art class at fourteen. She has had the privilege of studying painting with various local artists she admires, including many from the Woodstock School of Art. Janette has exhibited regularly in group shows in the Hudson Valley as well as in Connecticut. She is a member of the Olive Library Art Committee and the Olive Senior Art Group.
